Wedderburn Today

Wedderburn is a sleepy farming Hamlet (Pop 900) approximately 225Km NW of Melbourne on the Calder Highway. With a rich Goldfields history Wedderburn is part of Victoria's "Golden Triangle". Gold is still found here. The locals grow Wheat, Canola and Baa-Lambs. It is the Antithesis of St. Kilda and the Melbourne CBD but has its own charm. Here I will attempt to post (hopefully) frequent portraits of daily life in Wedderburn.

Sign of the Tmes - 2

Ok, here's our other "Interesting" street name. This is absolutely genuine, not a hoax. Now while Teddy Bear Lane was named after a long time resident of the town Titwobble Lane was not. Well... not quite. The story goes that years ago when this particular part of town was being subdivided, the Shire Engineer was driving down this particular bit of (Un-Named back then) road, doing the survey. The road was very rutted and pot-holed and the Engineer had his wife in the truck. Apparently she said something like "God, this road is so bad it makes my Tits Wobble..." Thus it came to pass that the Engineer named the road in honour of his darling wife. True story? I don't know but how on earth else would a street have got a name like that? Now if the sign for Teddy Bear Lane is frequently stolen, you can imagine how often this one disappears! Posted by Picasa

Apparently, the Today show on ch. 9 aired a segment a few months back about weird signs, which included this...

I wonder if this lead to an increase in sign theft... ;-)

Quite possibly. I mean, it is unlikely to be locals as they could hardly mount it on the rumpus-room wall?

The story is very close to the truth.... But I am bound to secrecy about the real story.
